reader view replaced by page summary in firefox ios 142.1

Firefox on my ipad mini was recently upgraded to 142.1 (60552), and the reader view button in the url bar has been replaced with the page summary lightning bolt.

I did find out how to re-enable reader view: settings -> page summaries and disable "summarize pages". As implemented, page summary is a replacement for reader view

I do not understand why page summary is considered a replacement for reader view. Reader view makes reading a page easier. Page summary makes reading a page optional. These are not equivalent functions. What is even worse is the summary uses (relatively) tiny fonts, and there does not seem to be a way to adjust the font size. The page summary itself needs a reader view!

If page summaries have to exist, it should be a feature along side reader view and not a replacement for reader view. Also, please keep the reader view button on the url barl. I use reader view a lot, and the easy access is very handy.

I agree. Thanks for letting us know how to re-enable reader view. I couldn’t figure it out.

I don’t mind if Mozilla wants to add the Summary feature, but I should have the option to turn it off and continue to use Reader view. If not, I’ll probably find a different browser for mobile. It’s a key feature for me that differentiates Firefox from others.

Agreed, the reader mode is great.

I found that sometimes long press on the lightning bolt summarize icon does activate reader view. But it only sometimes works and only after the page is done loading. I’ve sometimes stopped a page loading just so I can try to start reader view.

also, I sort of like the summarize feature so if I could still have the reader view icon and shake summarize enabled that would work for me.

I finally got around to testing this. FF 144.3 on ipad mini. Long press on lightning reliably brings up the reader mode. A note about this somewhere may be helpful...

But I use reader mode way more than I would even think of using page summaries, so it would just be an extra step. Safari requires an extra step to activate its reader mode, as well. It's not much, but it gets really annoying really fast.

Thank you, came here to say this. They are absolutely not equivalent features and I use reader view all the time
