Hi,
There is a lot of misleading information floating around about relocating the profiles in thunderbird. Lots of
references are to wishing to get the profiles off a relatively small C: on to a larger hard disk or SSD.
Point 1. Please include a simple (suitable for non tech users) feature to move the profiles to a different location.
The steps would be along the lines of the following:
- User selects "Move profiles to another disk" on the Tools Menu.
- User selects the destination location using a file tree selector or similar.
- Thunderbird checks the current profiles size, that the destination disk exists, is a suitable type and has sufficient space.
- The profiles directory is copied to the destination with a comforting progress bar.
- The appropriate changes are made to the configuration file.
- The original profiles are deleted.
This should be a simple thing to program, in the environments I am familiar with I would expect working code in a day and debugged and pretty not long after!
Point 2. Why not ask the user during installation which of the drives on his computer they would like the profiles to be stored? I'm just about to set up a system for my wife's gym club and I would really like to get
the profiles off the boot SSD.
Best Regards,
