There should be another option in the settings that allows Firefox to attempt to close automatically after an update is found.
At the very least, a red icon should appear in the hamburger menu to indicate that an update has been found.
Especially on laptops, this right can run for a long time without Firefox ever closing.

Solution:
- Additional option in the updater settings for updates with automatic closing
- For usability reasons, a notification should be sent indicating that a new update has been found, depending on the setting "Ready to install (please close manually)" or (new option) "Firefox will close automatically within the next 10 minutes"

Please DO NOT automatically close and restart on update!!
Prefer to download and notify that it's READY to restart, and will apply on that restart.

Current behavior FREEZES current session while applying/installing, then close - mine does NOT restart.
The only clue I have of an update applied is the "What's new" tab on restart.

@MomHenCluck At the very least, a red icon should appear in the hamburger menu to indicate that an update has been found. So this basically affects every update setting. Do you agree?
