Status: New idea

When I first open Thunderbird, obviously connections are made to servers, credentials are passed and authenticated, any emails waiting for me are downloaded (or at least the headers are).  The status of each transaction is displayed in the footer of the main Thunderbird dialog/app.

If I open an email while all of this is still happening, the status updates are then transferred to the footer of the dialog that I just opened, to view an email.

This can be perplexing, if the email I just opened has links in it.  As I hover over a link to see it's full URL in the footer of the email dialog, I can't read it because the transaction status overwrites the URL appearing in the footer of the email dialog.  I have to wait until all transactions are completed before I can "read" the URL of the link in question.  I like to see what a URL is before I click any link.  This is just a security thing, for me; but a very important one.

I submit that the transaction status and following updates to said status remain in the main Thunderbird dialog/app, allowing a user to hover over a link in an email to see the URL of the link in the footer of the opened email dialog, without any interruptions from transaction status updates.

This, to me, would be huge!

Thank you.

I think it's a good idea to separate them.

The URL will show if you turn off the Status bar - TB menu > View > Toolbars.

(OP probably saw this on another forum, just putting it out here for others to consider.)

First, I tried to hide status bar from the main dialog - that killed status of the main dialog, which means I don't get to see when the connections are happening.  I reverted that setting.

Next, I opened an email, and used View > Toolbars, and clicked off Status Bar.  That took away the whole status area at the bottom of the opened email dialog, so not only do I not see status updates, but I don't see URLs, either.  Reverted that setting.

This is Thunderbird in a Linux Mint (MATE) VM.
