Thunderbird v115.0 “All Address Books”

The ‘Address Book’ tab shows a) ‘All Address Books’, which merges together b) ‘Personal Address Book’ and c) ‘Collected Addresses’.

This seems wrong to me. I like the idea of keeping b) and c) separate. I can’t see why a) is there at all. Why would anyone want to see a list combining b) and c)? This list could be much longer and harder to search by eye. Surely it is easier to filter what we see by looking at b) or c) separately?

Can future updates to Thunderbird 115 provide a clickable option to turn off "All Address Books" so that it is not visible leaving only b) and c) visible?

My address book panel has four titles: Address Book, All, Personal, and Collected. I agree with Wiganken that that’s an over abundance. CSS files can hide some, but a simple toggle would be better.

I have FOUR address books, not three. My 115 shows Personal, Collected, All, and just plain Address Book. I hid Personal and All, because I know that any changes I make to my Gmail contacts will sync with Address Book, and v.-v., and Collected seems useful, in that it copies any new outgoing address, and I can later decide whether to add it/them to my Address Book or just delete it/them. If I add them to my Add Bk, I see them in Contacts the next time I access Gmail through my browser. Collected doesn’t grab anything that’s in Address already, but I don’t know about Personal (yet). Im not sure Google Contacts syncs with Personal Address Book.

I agree with wiganken. Four address books seems to me to be an overabundance. But different users may choose different books to keep and hide, for their own reasons. It would be great to have a toggle hide/show option, so that we wouldn't need to use CSS files to hide address books.

You may "think" having multiple address book is an overabundance,   but the reality is we all have more than one.

Mine has probably a dozen address books.  Some AOL ones,  others Google and Yahoo (all caldav and connected to the web mail address book.  There is even a business address book on a remote server.

Then there are the mailing lists that are children of each address book.  So I actually like having an all address book amalgam that is used to address emails and search for addresses.  I also like having a collected address book which I know are folk not in my address book before I communicated with them by email.

What I do not like is that theuser interface is so clunky folk are asking for chahge to the items because the + and - widgets are not there to hide the excess. The problems appear to be;

• They have flattened the heirachy of the list so it is not clear what bits fold into which as a parent.
• There is no option to expand and collapse the list and remember that state.

115 2.2 I cannot add a conatct to the addressbook. no enter or save button is dislayed.

1155.2 .... I cannot add a contact . When I hit the save key it comes up with a request to "choose an application to open the about link"    How do I add a contact to the address book?

115.5.2 - I cannot add a contact to the address book. When I hit save after entering the info TB comes up with a screen asking "choose an application to open the about link".   It also highlights TB as the application to open but I have entered the update process from an open version of TB.  What am I missing?

I don't foresee this happening.  Most users will want either to search all address books or a specific address book. And if "All Address Books" doesn't fit your use case, changing the default directory is your ticket - click the dots next to your preferred address book and click "Default startup directory".  This then will be your default for searching.

Thunderbird "upgraded" itself to v 115.11.1 and my address book DISAPPEARED. Thoroughly disgusted and how do I get it back?

Most users will likely prefer searching all address books or a specific one. If "All Address Books" isn’t suitable, adjust the default directory by clicking the dots next to your chosen address book and selecting "Default startup directory." This will streamline your searches, much like how Monkey Mart
