Status: Trending idea

Hi, Please add a feature so TB changes the background color of a label, instead of the text color it self. This would be far better to spot the different between the different labels.

currently the label is displayed the opposite of how it should, let me explain: when an email is labeled, it appears in the list among the others as in figure label-1 while it should appear as in figure label-2. When you do not click on the labeled email it remains almost invisible among the other emails while it becomes clearly evident if you click on it and select it. The label display should always be as if it were clicked on so that the associated label is clearly evident. This change has already been requested/evidenced by many other users who find the application of labels really inefficient the way it is set up now. In case more options should be added for color management and label behavior that never existed on Thunderbird.
Best Regards

Awesome idea.  This would help me greatly, especially because I use a dark mode/background.

Please!  Thanks!

I currently have this feature with CSS in userControl.css, but my understanding is this ability will disappear in version 115, so I hope to see this feature added.

I would like to see this feature added. I am partially color-blind and have this feature set in CSS in userControl.css, but I think that ability goes away with version 115.

That feature would be G R E A T and really helpful !!!
It would help with much better visibility and clarity to organize mails in folders.

I already posted this some time ago on bugzilla. I would be pleased if this would be implemented in v115 (i.e. like the picture below).
To see what color the chosen Mail has it would be helpful if one could deselect emails by clicking the white background below email-pane. Especially when there is just one email in the folder.

Better yet, integrate into Thunderbird the ability for a user to customize BOTH the text color AND the background color of each Thunderbird Label!

If implemented, please make it optional. I use a lot of labels, and it would be a colorful mess with such backgrounds. In my case, it's good with colored text (dark mode).

+1 great idea

@Seamaiden& @PeterM: That's what I meant: It would be great to choose whether you want colored text or colored background. It depends on how one uses labels for more clarity.

I really need this feature and I would be very happy to see it implemented.

For TB 115, my old userChrome.css failed for this.

This userChrome.css works instead:

/*
 * Label colors. Highlight background rather than change font color.
 */

/* Label1 */
tr[data-properties~="T_24label1"] { background-color: #FFCCCC !important; color: #000 !important;}
tr[data-properties~="T_24label1"][aria-selected~="true"] { background-color: #DD0000 !important; color: #FFF !important;}

/* Label2 */
tr[data-properties~="T_24label2"] { background-color: #FFFFCC !important; color: #000 !important; }
tr[data-properties~="T_24label2"][aria-selected~="true"] { background-color: #DDDD00 !important; color: #FFF !important; }

/* Label3 */
tr[data-properties~="T_24label3"] { background-color: #99FF99 !important; color: #000 !important; }
tr[data-properties~="T_24label3"][aria-selected~="true"] { background-color: #00CC00 !important; color: #FFF !important; }

/* Label4 */
tr[data-properties~="T_24label4"] { background-color: #CCCCFF !important; color: #000 !important; }
tr[data-properties~="T_24label4"][aria-selected~="true"] { background-color: #0000DD !important; color: #FFF !important; }

/* Label5 */
tr[data-properties~="T_24label5"] { background-color: #FFCCFF !important; color: #000 !important; }
tr[data-properties~="T_24label5"][aria-selected~="true"] { background-color: #CC33CC !important; color: #FFF !important; }

I've just made a similar proposal. I am very much in favour of this.

On new messages the text is blue and you can't see the label color at all. It's a pretty big oversight. Please allow us to color te background instead.
