In the Thunderbird folder pane, create an actions in the contextual menu to fold all subfolders at all sublevels under the selected folder. May be placed aside the "new subfolder" command, or in a new submenu.

First of all it's not clear where this contextual menu should be: right clicking the 3 dotts next to folder pane bar, we have no useful command.

But, above all, I think you misunderstood the question: in the past it was possible to collapse ALL folders of EVERY accounts by the key \
Then there was the famous plugin Keyconfig which now is no longer compatible to recent TBs.

For instance: I have 12 email accounts configured, each one with its subfolders. So we are talking of about 100-150 subfolders in all.

Obviously, there's the view which shows only the unread messages but if one needs to have the full view, we have to collapse each account one by one!

I agree the most urgent need is to collapse all accounts = all folders in all email accounts

Double click collapses all sub folder of the folder double-clicked.  So all that is left is for a root folder to be exposed in the folder pane so all accounts can be collapsed.  How do you suggest that should be handled in the unified folder view?

Hello to all.

All I have is currently one (1) Email account configured, and it still looks like a mess !!!

I would also like to be able to contract automatically all sub-level folders, except the 1rst level folders. Within a tree-view structure, the 1rst level folders I have could sum up to 150, and the all the rest sub-level folders, hanging under the 1rst level folders could sum up to a 1.000+ !!!

Lets suppose that my Email account is named [email protected]. Right now, when I expand it, I see all above 100 1rst level folders, together with the remaining 1.000+ sub-level folders ALSO FULLY EXPANDED, and hanging under the 1rst level folders.

That above configuration and setup basically looks like a mess !!! Just having to scroll down 1.150+ folders overall doesn't seem quite productive at all. My eyes get bloated !!! Not to mention that lately most pervert programmers seem to like to make that scroll down bar, as thin as my hair, so I can't even scroll down normally, and I need to be study surgery to have such a delicate hand just to be able to scroll down as an old normal person - ... ???

Current Setup:

Right now, when I double click the Email account (i.e. [email protected] ), what happens is that all 1rst level folders contract to the main Email account Folder (i.e. [email protected]), but not together with ALL the sub-level folders hanging under the 1rst level folders. Thus, on any attempt to manually re-expand that Email account (i.e. [email protected]), brings me right back to where I was originally - all subfolders remain expanded.

Suggested Setup:

Need: When you double-click a folder, all sub-folders contract, and the sub-folders remain permanently contracted, except when a user specifically requests their expansion too !!!

Suggested Solution:

Since all I need is to be able to double-click the main account name (i.e. [email protected]), and together with the 1rst level folders, all sub-tree folders contract to their primary folder automatically (those 150 1rst level folders mentioned above, that means that together with the double-click, and additional button should be pressed, so that the Mozilla Firefox distinguishes the current plain double-click from the new and advanced double-click+.

For example, if the user holded down the Keyboard "Shift Key", before double-clicking the appropriate folder, together with the 1rst level contraction (150 folders), all subfolders should ALSO contract permanently (those 1000+ mentioned above) to their parent folders. In this manner, on a following attempt to re-expand that main Email account Name (i.e. [email protected]), with the current double-click, the 1-rst level folders would expand (i.e. those 150 folders), but the remaining sub-level folders (i.e. 1000+ folders) would remain contracted !!!

In addition, in the case the user would like to expand all the folders beneath that main Email account Name (i.e. [email protected]), if he holded down the Keyboard "Control Key", before double-clicking the appropriate folder, then magically all sub-folders would expand fully (giving him the full-monty experience).

Right now, you are asking the users to contract 1.000+ folders manually and one-by-one using the current double-click, while by using an additional single keyboard key, in conjuction with the double click, you could replace those 1,000+ double-clicks magically !!!

How handy this could be to all users?

And you know what? Instead of using the Keyboard Keys "Shift Key" and "Control Key", why don't you instead use those handy "+" and "-" keys of the Keyboard? The "+" could be used in conjuction with the double-click for fully expansion, and the "-" could be used in conjuction with the double-click for fully contraction.

And please make those extra keys "+" and "-" user selectable, in the case Microsoft decides to sabotage your programming, and start to use those keys you selected for something different (Microsoft always tries to sabotage competitors).

You Mozilla Thunderbird programmers seem to have done so much work on this Mail Client, buy yet, you are still missing some of the most basic user needs ...

How difficult is it to implement and add this on your next available version?

For me, this looks like a programming freshman's homework in university.
