Making moves
Status: In development

Thunderbird can move folders to different hierarchies using drag and drop. However, it is not possible to move them within the same hierarchy, i.e. reorder them.

The "Manually sort folders" add-on had helped to sort folders, but with Thunderbird 115 (Supernova), it is no longer available. It is time to make it a proper feature.

I was involved in the development of the add-on to make it Thunderbird 78 compatible and later as a collaborator. So, as an option, I have considered developing another add-on for Thunderbird 115. This may not be impossible. (John is providing a POC.) But I would like to consider implementing the ability to sort folders properly in Thunderbird.

My current thinking and the work required has been described here.

1846550 - add ability to manually sort (order) folders in folder pane (mozilla.org)

Strollin' around

THANKS Itagaki  !!!!!!!!!!

Downloaded the Beta 139... and finally I have my folders in place.

Just discovered two duplicate folders, one with three levels of Sub Folders.

Just imagine copying and avoiding duplicates between the duplicates.

(Then delete one, hoping not to miss anything )

Thank you for your hard work on this.

I can't overstate how huge the ability to manually sort folders is for me.

Very well done!

This sounds like brilliant news! But when will it be rolled out to us common mortals on the esr channel? I'm currently on 128.11.0 which seems like a long way behind.

Huge thanks to Itagaki, not so many to the TB development team - until this indispensable facility becomes available to all.

No idea how since when it was implemented, but recently I found out how to sort accounts in Thunderbird.

Click right on the account to go to Accounts Settings.
Make sure the account name there is highlighted.
Then hold the Alt key and use the up or down arrows to move the account.

Finally having accounts that belong together grouped sorted again!
