Hello Mozilla Team,

I've encountered an issue with the "Ctrl + Backspace" keyboard shortcut in Mozilla Firefox/Nightly. Typically, this shortcut is used to delete the previous word in text input fields. However, it doesn't seem to function correctly when used in the search bar.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox/Nightly.
  2. Click on the search bar (or press "Ctrl + K" to focus on the search bar).
  3. Type a query without spaces (e.g., "google.com").
  4. Attempt to use "Ctrl + Backspace" to delete the last word or the entire text if it not manually separated by spaces.

Expected Result: The last word typed in the search bar should be deleted, or the whole text should be deleted if it is not manually separated by spaces.

Actual Result: The shortcut does not delete the last word or the entire text as expected. Instead, it deletes only part of the word, leaving behind some characters. For example, typing "google.com" and then pressing "Ctrl + Backspace" results in "gcom/" instead of deleting the entire "google.com" word.

Additional Information:

  • This issue has been observed in the latest version of Firefox as of 24.07.2024.
  • My operating system is Windows 10.
  • I have tried disabling all extensions to rule out conflicts, but the problem persists.
  • Other text input fields, such as webpage forms, do not exhibit this behavior; "Ctrl + Backspace" works as expected there.

Impact: This issue disrupts the user experience for those who frequently use keyboard shortcuts for text editing, slowing down the search process and reducing efficiency.

Thank you for looking into this matter. I appreciate your efforts in maintaining and improving Mozilla Firefox.
