Status: New idea

I learned that the Firefox team is working on a UI refresh, called Nova.
https://itsfoss.com/news/firefox-nova-leak/

Personally, I like it. Nova looks fresh and interesting!
But Nova also introduces way more rounded interface elements (address bar, input fields, tabs, shortcuts ...). Some users simply hate rounded elements, especially rounded tabs. Others love them.

Team "rectangular" ๐ŸŸช

Team "round" ๐ŸŸข

So why not introduce a feature to decide for the roundness of the interface elements yourself? The default can be rounded, but users that don't like this are able to change just one setting to make the design more rectangular. And yes, this could probably be changed using a custom CSS stylesheet (userchrome.css), but not every user has the technical skills to make these changes.

Vivaldi already has this setting. You can decide which border radius should be applied to buttons, frames, tabs and other elements.

Dear Firefox team, what scenario do you like the most?

  1. Nova is launched, but people ๐Ÿ˜ฎ keep nagging ๐Ÿ˜ฉabout the rounded tabs and buttons while it actually is a really nice UX redesign?
  2. Nova is launched, people love it ๐Ÿงก and other users tell each other โžก๏ธ "hey, if you don't like rounded tabs, just change is one setting that was introduced with Nova!". After the much beloved "AI kill switch", this new setting once again provide choice to Firefox users and puts Firefox on par with Vivaldi in this respect.

I've added a screenshot of the "corner rounding" setting in Vivaldi. Seems like a fairly simple addition to Firefox settings and an opportunity to make the launch of Nova even better ๐Ÿš€!

I like current modern designs.

Yea. Stop copy chrome. If I would want that,I have been using Chrome everyday instead of Firefox from 2006.
If you want that, add multiple themes. The old Compact design, the Proton design and Nova design.
Don't just change all and that is. Add a way to choose, you can do better than others. Don't break this now.

agreed the new design looks pretty clean

I believe that those who oppose Firefox Nova will still continue to use it as long as Firefox pushes updates to everyone.

@Jon When will Firefox Nova be available for use on Firefox Nightly? I want to use it as soon as possible. I really love Nova's design, and even though there are still many bugs, I can accept it.

Please add a way to remove all the rounded corners.

I've been maintaining my own userChrome CSS for years now to remove all the rounded corners and excessive menu padding you guys keep adding. Each update modifying the UI wastes hours of my time removing the rounded corners. If you also add some way to trim down the padding on the menus automatically and get rid of the floating island look Nova seems to be going for, I might finally be free of needing to remember how CSS works every few months. I don't have high hopes for any of this happening though.

too much rounding, too much wasted space ๐Ÿ‘Ž

I do not like the rounding in the new nova design. I would however be okay with having the option of it being easily customized and the nova look can be the default. I just want to be able to change the look of I don't like it.

I would love to have this feature and it would satisfy everyones taste!

It's a win-win in my opinion!

I hate rounded corners, and these corners are excessively round. At least make it optional with a feature to enable or disable rounded corners.

Rounded tabs in particular waste precious limited screen space and they look weird too.
