Making moves
Status: New idea

Currently I'm doing research on a heap of products, and collating into an online spreadsheet. I'm wearing out the Ctrl+Tab keys flicking back and forth, copying/pasting etc!

It would be awesome to "pop-out" a tab and have it "float" on top like what Picture-in-Picture does. I know you can the tab in a new window, resize it, move it etc but it still doesn't stick on-top and has borders that take up space.

I've seen extensions that try to do split screen for tabs but they don't seem to work very well. Thanks!

Tab Tiles

Edge has 2 side by side

Vivaldi has multiple tab tiles.

Firefox needs to adopt the Vivaldi way here, just an amazing feature that is missing.

Split Screen / Page Tiling on Firefox

I'm a productivity user that often need to view 2 different documents in order to do my work.

On Microsoft Edge, there is something called Multitask with Split Screen.

On Vivaldi, there is Tab tiling or Page tiling.

These features allow the user to split the tabs in your browser into horizontal or vertical tabs on a single window.

I want this feature on Firefox. Instead of installing suspicious add-ons on Firefox for this feature.

side bar is not nearly enough - being able to run and view urls side by side is a really useful tool

Implementing split tabs in Firefox seems complex, similar to the challenges with Vivaldi’s mobile extensions. Progressing with this feature also appears difficult. Could the Firefox development team consider adding this functionality natively to avoid the need for potentially risky add-ons?

Split View for Multi-Tasking

Hi all! Today's world is quite dynamic, and sometimes, we need to do two things at the same time: for example, read a PDF on one side of the browser and edit a Google Document on the other.

Doing this in two windows is only somewhat convenient, especially when there are not two but, for example, three tabs that require simultaneous viewing.

While there are some existing extensions for split view, they have their limitations. For example, one extension opens tabs in dynamically generated HTML files, which triggers CORS protection on some sites. Another extension allows opening a tab in the sidebar, but it's not as functional as one would expect.

I recently switched from Vivaldi to Firefox because Chromium was becoming too dominant. Firefox's more efficient PDF viewer and mobile extensions were the killer features for me. However, Split View is sorely lacking in Firefox, which hampers my productivity experience.

I am attaching images of what I mean and the extensions mentioned.

Hi everyone!

Thank you for the wonderful suggestions and feedback in this thread. (And thank you, @KERR, for being an awesome OP!)  Really loving the group exchange here.

I'm happy to say that we've been investigating ways we could implement a prototype of the "floating" tab pop-out idea you brought up. It's time for Firefox to improve our tab management/layout experience. Times have changed from users focusing on a single active tab, especially in light of (as you mentioned) the Split Tab feature emerging in Edge and other browsers.

Will keep you all posted on concrete developments here. Wish us luck! 🤗 🦊

@itskarenHi, how are you doing? Can I participate in testing this feature?

Split screen vertically. Each side will have the full set of bars and rulers including URL box and HTML view.

Add option to right click on a link to open the URL page on the split screen. This is very useful when you want to go though all search results sequentially without going forward and backward.

Implementing a split-screen mode in Firefox browser

Dear Development Team,

I would like to propose implementing a splitscreen mode in Firefox browser, similar to what's available in Microsoft Edge or Vivaldi. This feature would significantly increase the productivity of Firefox users.

A splitscreen mode allows users to display multiple web pages side by side simultaneously. This is particularly useful for tasks that require comparing information or switching between different sources.

Split screen on Edge is why it took me so long to switch to Firefox. I miss it everyday. And not being able to pull a tab out so I can pseudo split screen is also antiquated.

I've been wishing for this feature for years!!!
