If global-messages-db.sqlite is not accessible for whatever reason Thunderbird will just get stuck on a blank pane screen that doesn't allow you to access Account Settings or any other relevant option. (see example: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1379540 )

Checking error console only gives you several "Uncaught TypeError: gFolderDisplay is null" .

My suggestion is that when this happens a specific error message be presented in the error console or popup dialog pointing out that the database file is not accessible or corrupt. It would have saved me a great deal of days I had to spend troubleshooting the problem 😄

Why would the file not be available?  Unless it was perhaps in a not recommended location like documents.

Hi thanks for your comment and sorry for the delay, I didn't receive the notification for it.

In my case I have all my personal files and app data in a different encrypted partition, and even though Linux Mint mounted the partition Thunderbird wasn't able to access it unless I had already previously opened the partition with Files app (which I came to discover after a few days).

Searching online I found several cases with similar problems and coming to the same error code without coming to any conclusion as to what the problem was because of how unhelpful the error message is.

This given, I believe this problem can arise for a number of reasons and Thunderbird's current error message is not helpful to understand what is going making users waste time.
