sidebar - Hide in fullscreen mode

The addition of vertical tabs is a great new feature. I think the sidebar should be hidden when in fullscreen mode (F11 on Windows). The horizontal tabs are hidden in fullscreen, I think only the tab content should be displayed.

Just a small thing. I noticed that the sidebar doesn't hide when going full screen (F11):

Not sure if there's a reason for this, but it would be nice if full screen also hid the sidebar.

An option to set that behavior would be alright, but I do utilize the side bar in fullscreen sometimes. I just put the shortcut right above it so I can easily turn it off for fullscreen when desired.

I agree. Like the new feature since I'm hopping back and forth between my phone and computer so much at the same time, however, I would LOVE for the option to have the sidebar disappear when entering fullscreen mode via F11

Provide an option to automatically hide the veritical tabs bar when entered fullscreen manually

Currently, when vertical tabs is enabled and the user entered fullscreen manually via F11, the vertical tabs bar will not hide.

A workaround is Hide tabs and sidebar option in sidebar settings, however it conflicts with Expand sidebar on hover option.

Ideally, both the toolbar and vertical tabs bar should hide in fullscreen unless the user hovers on the edge of the screen.

Can Firefox add a option to hide the sidebar in fullscreen just like how Microsoft Edge was doing or even making this default?

(The current behaviour was observed on Firefox Developer Edition 141.0b9 and I did not verify this on other versions)

There should be an option to hide tabs on fullscreen as well as normal. The bar should only be visible on hover.

Seconding this as a needed update. Fullscreen viewing should auto-hide vertical sidebars fully and reappear on hover.

@Longy17 Well yeah but now with vertical tabs you literally cannot hide the sidebar (unless you turn them off or use the javascript fullscreen)

100%. I have the address bar set to hide in full-screen, but why the sidebar cannot do the same is quite the question.

I also support auto-hiding the vertical sidebar when going fullscreen.

Oftentimes when there is content that I want to view in complete fullscreen, I often used to:

1. enter fullscreen
2. turn off vertical tabs
3. hide sidebar

Then when I'm finished viewing in fullscreen, I would re-enable vertical tabs. 

Later I found that the setting 'Hide tabs and sidebar' under ''Customize Sidebar' > 'Vertical tabs' will make the sidebar immediately hidden without tab icons, but then clicking 'Show sidebar' (Alt + Ctrl + Z) in the toolbar will re-appear the sidebar without disabling the setting. This means that with the setting enabled, the sidebar can be completely hidden (or shown) using 'Show sidebar'. I think this setting's description could be slightly be descriptive than 'Hide tabs and sidebar' because I thought it was the same thing as 'Show sidebar', but really they seem to have distinct functions.

Thank you for your feedback, we agree it would be a worthwhile improvement, and it has been sitting on our backlog for a while (our team had to switch to some other work after implementing vertical tabs)!

We're planning to work on making this happen in the first part of this year. Here's a bug on file you can follow.
