Want to select an alternative home page when opening a new tab.
Current New Tab options [+] are to open the tab with either the Mozilla home page (by default) or a blank page. Many users use their own home page, or some other page, as a portal... This now requires an extra click every time you want to open a new tab with your portal (or whatever page you want)... It also uses extra bandwidth when opening all the links in the default page when you never use them.
I have been wanting this for ages. I don't understand why it wasn't initially coded that way to begin with. It would be a very big help to me I am on the WEB for many hours a day for work and it would be a godsend.
When the new tab page was introduced in Firefox 13, there was a simple preference in about:config to set any URL you liked, and it would be saved in the prefs.js file in your profile. Unfortunately, malware took the liberty of overwriting that setting at every opportunity. So in Firefox 41, the ability to set the new tab page was moved to an add-on interface.
After installation, you need to go to its settings page to set up your preferred page.
The way add-ons store data is extremely obscure and difficult to malware to overwrite, but there must be some way to make this a built-in setting someday without compromising security.
I would like to request that I be able to choose what site new blank tabs open in. Right now it's "Blank" or "firefox home". Please give the option for tabs to open on the site of preference similarly to new windows and home page.
Please. New Tab Override addon does not allow for about: protocol pages as new tab overrides, and to be honest, this is the one thing that the new Firefox View thing y'all made is good for - a new tab. Please, let me use about:firefoxview as the new tab, so it's slightly more practical than a blank page, which is far more practical, in its own rights, than the default Homepage.
With due respect to the FF team, but why is every other browser able to offer this?
Compounding the functionality gap is the janky alternative, which is to have "Firefox Home" as the default. But when you type into the search bar on that page, focus jarringly jumps up to a massive dialog that jumps out of the URL box at the top of the screen. Why have the field on the page at all, then?
I think it's awesome that Firefox allows you to have your computer open Firefox automatically. when your computer starts up. I'm glad it lets me choose what my own homepage is. Though I wish, It would allow us to choose what my new tab page URL is. For example, if you owned a business and wanted your homepage page set to your business URL each time the computer booted up, and then allowing me to choose a different URL for a new tab page.
