@AgentvirtuelThanks for the tip about the wacky search-bar behavior. I don't see why the default behavior exists, or how the user is supposed to guess that this obscure tweak exists.
I think it would be neat to be able to set the New Tab to be a custom URL just like how one can currently set the homepage and New Window to be a custom URL.
So after reading thru the comments, malware and third party addons can change this, but we can't simply get an option to change it. got it...
I'm not sure what happened to ff over the years, used to be filled with options, then it was "hey, you need to learn coding to make simple changes like tabs on bottom" and now it's, we don't know how to securely code this, but you can use an addon that does the job.
I just noticed that, ff 138.01, the SETTINGS / HOME page is now displaying "new tab override" as a built-in option. Does that REPLACE the new tab override add-on?
@joefiesta I don't have it there and I have ff 139, is this by any chance the installed addon?
Btw. somehow I have a feeling that the inability to override new tab url is due to the contract with google. They want us to have google search front and center. If that is so, its pretty efed up, because if they don't have the contract they don't have money, the browser is dead, because no one was capable of finding any proper alternative income source in what... in 20 years?
As a person who just switched from chrome I don't know how this isn't an option. Our default new tab opens the google.com page which has the drop down with all our apps at the upper right. This drives me crazy why is it an option for new window but not new tab it makes no sense!
The "contract with Google" idea doesn't hold water, because you can't even set your default new-tab page to Google (which is in fact what I was trying to do).
