Mozilla needs to remove outdated add-ons from theirs add-ons store because it's dangerous to keep old add-ons. Why because outdated products are easy targets for hackers and viruses. It can affect the users data and system but it can also attack mozilla self. It's best to remove those to protect the users and mozilla self.

Might be hard to define what an "old addon"exactly is.

I mean there are perfectly working addons, which have not been updated for years, and i wouldn't call them outdated/old.

Exactly what igorlogius said. I am developer of several add-ons for Firefox and some didn't get any updates for years. There is not always a reason for an update and it doesn't make these add-ons "dangerous". It makes no sense at all to remove add-ons just because they are "old".

I understand what you mean but I'm not talking about if it works or not. I'm talking about security. Let's say there is a add-on that hasn't been updated for 5 years. In those 5 years there have come new viruses. And to protect your product against those viruses. Developers have being updated there product to protect it against the new viruses. It's just the same story about not updating your new mobile update.  Look I'm not saying those add-ons are bad but I'm just thinking about security. Let's say I have that add-on and i get a virus because of that add-on. Then you can give 3 parties the fault. The developer for not updating, me for installing it on my browser or mozilla for keeping it in there add-ons store. At the end mozilla will probably get the fault because they keep it available for download/use. I hope you understand my opinion.

@Jeppie

Users who are this concerned about issues hopefully know to stick to using the recommended addons only.  Those should fullfill your requirements. ( ref. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-badges )

But i dont think you can expect mozilla to review all addons in the same way (if that is what this issue is about), when even companies like google or microsoft can not prevent broken, malicious or outdated/vulnerable addons on their stores.

@AnonymousI see recommended add-ons that are outdated. I don't think it's to difficult to look for outdated add-ons and then remove them. Broken and malicious are difficult but outdated is easy because you only need to look on the add-ons page by last updated place. Yeah but google and others doesn't give a **bleep** about it and when they completely finished manifest 3 all those outdated add-ons disappear because those are not updated to manifest 3 add-ons. But if I'm right mozilla keeps using manifest 2 then those old add-ons doesn't disappear by firefox. But yeah on the end mozilla decides what they are gonna do with it. I hope they will look into it and think about it.

You definition of what exactly outdated means seems to be the main issue here.

If you think you can help out: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/

Maybe, we'll see ... but what is definitely true is that this can also be said about AMO. At one point (might be a bit later) there will be a total deprication of the MV2 addons. That time just has not yet been anounced.

Just FYI, as a user you can also already report addons. So that is another way you can help out.
