In Thunderbird for Android v8.2 I have seen this display of the opened burger menu.

tb-for-android-menu.jpeg

The readability suffers as too much information is squeezed in a row:

  • on the left the icons for account selection, refresh and settings
  • on the right the names of the folders

The result is that folder names are more often broken into several lines. 😥

In K9Mail (v6.9) the icons of the left column (account selection, settings) were vertically above and below the folder list. This reduces the necessary total width. Please consider to revert this change. The screenshot above was taken on a big screen with a system font size, bigger than normal (visual impairment 👵👓).

Additional improvement may be achieved by hiding the [Google Mail] or [Gmail] prefix (see Folder naming for Thunderbird mobile).

I love your program, but it would be GREAT to have this change because the folder names are unreadable.
As mentioned in the post, having the menu in one column like in Gmail app would be fantastic.

I love your program, BUT it would be FANTASTIC to have the burger menu in a single column like in the Gmail app.
The folder names are currently unreadable.
A big thank you to the whole team for taking my comment into account 😉

The current menu feels too cramped folder names wrapping makes it harder to read, especially with larger fonts. A vertical layout like in K-9 Mail would definitely improve usability. myht space

This is a very valid usability concern, especially for users with larger font sizes or visual impairments. The current burger menu layout in Thunderbird for Android does seem to waste horizontal space by placing icons beside folder names instead of above and below them like in K9Mail. Reverting to the older layout could definitely improve readability and reduce unnecessary line breaks in folder names. Hiding prefixes like “[Google Mail]” or “[Gmail]” would also help create a much cleaner and more accessible interface.
