When you create a folder in an IMAP account that contains a dot (like: example.com), this creates an unexpected result: You will end up with two folders like this:

- example (this is an invisible folder)
-- com (this is a subfolder)

This is not Thunderbird's fault – but Thunderbird could prevent it: Why not simply refuse to accept folder names with dots?
