Making moves
Status: New idea

Hello Mozilla community,
I was a huge fan of the former Pocket App on Mac, mostly because I was able to download articles and read them offline.

Indeed, I am used to saving articles in Pocket to read them in the train, where the network connection is not the best.

Unfortunately, this application has been deprecated and Pocket is only available on Mac through the iOS app. This app is very good on mobile, but doesn't really work on Mac.

Having article available offline, participate in a more accessible web, because don't need to rely on their network connection to access the resources they saved.

Could you adapt the Pocket app to make it available on Mac in order to benefit from the offline mode ?

I haven’t used Pocket on the Mac with the iOS app as I tend to just use the website. However, I wonder if Pocket could be made as an optional module for Thunderbird?

Thunderbird could act as an offline reader, if it could link to Pocket.

It could work in several ways too

  • Click on an email to read an article, in Thunderbird’s browser and a Pocket button is there is store the page
  • View all Pocket saves in Thunderbird and have the ability to tag, archive and delete
  • Offline storage
  • A built-in reader using Pocket’s software
  • Have articles read aloud for those who struggle to view dense articles
