This is a tradition heading back to the early days of windows.

Currently unless the user is clicking on the program via the start menu or an icon on the desktop, they Do Not KNow what program they're running. You've created the same problem that I see with Google Chrome and novices. They DON'T KNOW what program they're running, because it Doesn't Tell Them.

You think this is a minor issue - it is not. It is a major design flaw for anyone who is not a intermediate-and-upwards computer user.

Please don't make the same mistake here.

Strollin' around

Are you talking about title bar (highlighted in red in my screenshot) ? If so, you can enable it:

Familiar face

Thunderbird has a setting in it's settings tab to show or hide the title bar.  Personally, I just turned it on first chance I got.  It put the windows controls where they belonged.
