With the version Firefox 109 release, you added this new button without the option to change its position or move into the overflow area. Please let use move it. I can remove/hide almost every other UI element in the browser, why not this?
Dude, I spent literally DAYS thinking I had done something WRONG when I formatted my PC and installed 109, just to find out that a feature that has been great for years has been removed and downgraded to almost useless. Please, let us move some extensions buttons back to the overflow menu, and even remove the "Extensions" button or move it as well to the overflow menu.
I totally agree with you. What`s the point anyway for that icon to stay visible all the time. I like a clean design and love to customize everything to fit my needs and that extensions icon just annoys me.
Your idea has quickly received a great deal of votes (kudos) and support here in the Mozilla Connect community, so we are upgrading the status to “Trending idea.” Also, this thread has been shared with our internal teams and is one step closer to a review—learn more about The Idea Journey.
Please keep the conversation going and stay tuned for updates 😃
As an aside, I see the current extension button as being a mix between two - rather separate, in the context of Firefox's UI - ideas:
1. Centralized permission/access control for addons in regards to the current page. This makes a lot of sense to have, but I also got to wonder why this was not placed in the shield-flyout, the existing centralized space where a user would look for anything related to permissions, data or privacy on the current page? I would never get the idea of clicking on a puzzle-piece icon after years of being told by the UI to worry about the - color-highlighted! - shield icon.
2. List of addons, for purposes of quickly accessing their settings/menus. This makes a lot of sense too, but conceptually it is more like a "All your addons are always on your hotbar, just we collapse the ones you don't want to see all the time". Which brings us back to this very thread: That's what the Overflow menu is, and it already exists.
In version 111.0b1, this flag doesn't work anymore. I hate this so much. Firefox's customizability is actually slipping away from us. I might as well use Chrome now. Good bye Mozilla and Firefox. 👎
It is an eyesore, it is annoying, i can't move it, I cant hide it, I don't want it. It's a little like list all tabs button, we should have the option to remove it.
Fully agree, I was hoping that the 110 release would fix that, but we have to wait, as it seems. And please, Mozilla team, listen to the voice of the community!
We've chosen Firefox because it is a great tool for the things we like/need to do. We know our use cases and have a pretty good idea about how things work...that's why we use Firefox in the first place. As people who appreciate the control/choices that we have while using OUR equipment OUR way to do the things WE need/chose to do, most of us here see this mucking around with things and taking away control of OUR gear as an insult. Please, stop with the "Won't SOMEBODY please THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" bit. We're adults here, not children. If you fail to do so, your share in the market will continue to head toward zero. Don't alienate the only people who actually do value your work.
I would love to have the ability to remove the Extensions icon. I neither want nor need fast access to a whole UI for my extensions. I'm curious what the use case is for this anyway. Are there really users that need quick access to this screen often enough to warrant adding a permanent button to the UI?
I'm so confused about this addons button - isn't that what the overflow menu was for in the first place??? I mean... if you have to have all the addons tucked into a menu, why not the one we already have for that job?
