Option of putting the tabs BELOW the address bar

I have had problems with the latest version of Safari on my Mac and am looking for another browser. Firefox seems like the best choice so far but it has one feature I cannot get used to and may ultimately prevent me from using it. That feature is the position of the tabs at the top, above the website address. Please give us the option of putting the tabs where they belong, BELOW the URL address bar and directly above the webpages.

The behaviour how it SHOULD BE and HAS BEEN in early version is: Tabs right above the site (content of the tab).

Right after the stupid decision to change this, I used about:config to fix it.
After this option has been removed, I had problems until I found out it can be done with CSS.
Now Firefox 113.0 broke my CSS. It already took me hours over hours to get it working with my theme and addons. This was years ago. I have to start from the scratch, because I don't know anymore how I did it.

I have some simple question to the dev team:
Why are you doing this? Changing standards, removing the option to revert to old standard, change things a lot of people liked and ignoring their needs for YEARS?

The way it should be is:
Title bar
Menu
Bookmarks / Adress bar   (maybe interchangeable)
Tabs
Site content
Status bar

PLEASE bring the option back within customization options!

I don't understand why the devs break custom css to put tabs on the bottom with every update. I'm convinced they just hate their users.

With Firefox Ver 113.0.1 update on 13May2023.
It is suddenly ignoring my userChrome.css which enabled me to have "Tabs on Bottom" being the way I like it FF set up.
I feel this is long overdue to be included in Settings as an option under Tabs, so as to make this choice of the style you desire for FF to be for your personal use.
The choice to be "Tabs on Top" or "Tabs on Bottom".

I, like many, many others here are wondering why you continue to ignore the repeated requests

of your users to include an option for tabs below the address/bookmarks toolbar.  This has

been going on for years...years.  What does it take?  Waterfox allows it.  Do you really think we

won't go somewhere else to get what we want?  Think again.  If you want to lose users, just

keep ignoring these requests.  Option. Tabs. Below.  Please.

Please give us the option to have the tab bar below the bookmark toolbar. It cannot be that hard to allow this to be an option. At the moment only possible by messing around with scripts. I put off allowing Firefox to update itself because i never know when the update will stop the script from functioning. Such a simple thing that's been suggested over and over, yet still no option to have the tab bar below the bookmark bar.

Yep, just ended up here having found my tabs have gone walkabouts, again!  Ridiculous that it keeps changing, like the devs are actively trying to prevent the tabs going where many people want them to be.

Why are there options to enable/disable the menu strip, show/hide the bookmarks, customise positions of buttons, but the tab group is fixed?

It's so annoying having to tweak in .css file.  Figure out the change and apply it on all of my devices.

The style ends up looking a bit wrong, as they intend the tab group to be connected to the menu strip.

Do Firefox developers read this forum?  Is there a better place to complain?

Tabs on bottom has been a sticking barb ever since Firefox hidden the option in version 15 and finally removed the option out-of-the-box in 28 (Australis). The past argument against the reintroduction of the option, which is the availability of add-ons doing the job, is no longer relevant ever since the browser customization provided by add-ons have been hugely reduced since 57 (Quantum). The only argument remotely relevant is the added maintenance cost, which I am very skeptical of given that it's a simple CSS change, and looking at the other more complicated yet arguably less useful features added to the browser core over time...

As someone who currently has to use userChrome.css to bring back tabs on bottom, I would very much welcome the return of this option which I believe still has a unignorable, sizeable amount of people who stand by the "superior UX" of this placement of tabs. And it should be user-friendly to do so just like before Firefox 15: right-click context menu via any of the toolbars (as well as the Customize Toolbars page).

Another possible solution would be to introduce an API in WebExtensions to allow add-ons to customize the position of the tab bar, but it still would be ideal to just provide the option out-of-the-box instead of having to install an add-on, given that it's a former feature whose removal really got very controversial at the time.

Frankly, since FF used to have this feature, this request should be considered a bug fix, and not a wish list item.  We should never have lost this.

I use this userChrome.css, which works well for me to give me tabs below the URL bar on Firefox 113.

Make sure you have the file in the right place. Also, in FF's about:config, don't forget to set toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to true.

kdato, That is how i get around the problem. I am so grateful to the people that write these scripts. Trouble is, we are never sure how long it will be before a Firefox update stops that script from working correctly. And then, and if your like me and do not have a clue how to fix the issue, we are then back to Google searching in hope that someone's amended the script so that it works once more.

I am on Firefox 113, and it's been bugging me everyday to download the latest update, but because i am not sure if it's going to break the function of the script again i am holding off on the update. And i know people that have gone into the registry and edited it so that it prevents Firefox from updating again. Obviously not the best of ideas.

If the devs at Firefox would simply allow us to put the tab bar where it should be, all of this would be avoided. If people can get the tab bar where they want it to be via a script, then why is it so hard for the Firefox team to give us the option?

Yes,please. Vivaldi,Opera and Samsung browser on android has this feature,and it's so good we don't have to press 2 buttons for switching tabs only 1 button. It increases productivity.
