I would like to see the Thunderbird Chat implement OMEMO for XMPP messages. Every modern XMPP messenger has OMEMO, and implementing it in Thunderbird would preclude having to have an additional XMPP desktop app just for messaging.
I have a number of non-technical people who use Thunderbird already. It would be far easier to not have to teach them how to use Gajim if they could use an application they're already familiar with for communication. Sadly the lack of OMEMO support currently prevents this.
Yes, this feature could really give Thunderbird a real advantage over its competitors. Is there any indication as to whether it is being seriously considered for implementation?
I endorse this proposal. Right now I only use mobile apps for XMPP. Enabling OMEMO for XMPP will make Thunderbird chat feature-set more complete. I think this should take as much priority as Matrix has been given so far if not higher.
I recently discovered that this is still an open bug in Bugzilla from 9 years ago, so it's obviously not been a priority, but perhaps we can chime in there as well and try to voice our support for this needed feature:
