Status: New idea

Hi,

I'm using Nightly and finally started using the new Nova design. I really don't mind how it looks, but right as I started using it, I already came across an issue in the experience - when I try to click on a tab, or grab the scroll bar, I keep hitting the dead space. I'm attaching a gif showing what I mean in comparison to previous design (I apologize for cursor disappearing when reaching the dead space).

I won't lie, it's very, very annoying. I'd love if it was solved by extending the tab/scroll bar click space into the empty space. I don't mean making the buttons bigger, but just making the dead space on the side act as if I had the cursor on the tab/scroll wheel.

What do you think?

Making moves

This is a big regression bug/downgrade.

This issue started with the split tabs, which suffer the same problem. And it will happen very soon to all tabs if no further remediation.

The bug is exclusively caused because of looks. For some reason the UX team has decided that a "modern" look means adding wrapping margins to the browser chrome.

Specifically, the element #navigator-toolbox –which encompasses the entire top bar with tabs, address bar and bookmarks– is now surrounded by a 4px margin. Same for the viewport. This new margin cannot be used as active zone for the tabs or scrollbar, and hence that dead gap at the top and right sides.

UX designers, developers, QA team and project managers, please, don't let this massive bug (feature?) slip into the final version.

Add whatever framing/margin you want. But make sure the clickable areas extend to the sides as before. Do not sacrifice crucial accessibility for perceived looks!
