Native Vertical Tabs

I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!

I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.

Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

@MW your idea was merged into this thread - we don't have that functionality built in to the browser, but we are currently looking into it. Hope to provide some more updates soon.

@Jon When will you develop vertical tabs? This feature was proposed in 2022, and it's been two years, how is the development progress? Haven't you started development yet?

I unfortunately don't believe this feature will be implemented anytime soon. This is because this idea has been popular on the previous community feedback system. And I don't think Mozilla has the will to develop this instead of following just the trend of VPN, crypto-currency or AI voice systems.

In all honesty, I don't believe that anything Mozilla can bring to the table will surpass Tree Style Tab or Sidebery... Though it would be great to at least get started.

With ultrawide screens, the horizontal real state is scarcer than the vertical one. It makes perfect sense to use a native vertical bar like "Tree Style Tab" extension.

Would love to finally have this natively implemented. The plugins are good but what we need is the polish only you can provide.

This is awesome, thanks for posting. Together with sideview this is already all I could ever want.
