Native Vertical Tabs

I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!

I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.

Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

This is the make-or-break browser feature for me. Vertical tabs is the ONLY reason that I use Edge as my default browser. I keep Firefox open for a smaller niche of sites that I visit, but for my default daily use, the lack of built-in vertical tabs is a dealbreaker when Edge has it baked in and it's so good. I want to use Firefox, not Edge! And I don't want to rely on extensions for the vertical tabs and hacky CSS overrides to hide the horizontal tab bar.

Vertical Tab Bar support

Add native vertical tab bar support in Firefox. Like Microsoft Edge and Brave. If the vertical tab bar feature is added, I will switch to Firefox.

I believe that vertical tabs it's important for the browser. Because realisation in Vivaldi for example are good. Or you can use tree style tab addon + function to hide horizontal ones. I believe that developer will be happy to be a part of Mozilla.

I'm agree with the community. Let's make out browser friendly. Vertical tabs it's very cool. You can try to make realization like in Vivaldi for example. Or you can implement TreeStyleTab addon. I believe that author will be happy to be a part of Mozilla. Or you can recommend it via first settings + add function to hide horizontal tabs (because it's working but very complicating via .css file).

Exactly what I need, please do not force me to switch browsers after 18 years on Firefox/Mozilla.

We need more freedom; not Mozilla imposing more control...  We NEED a class of UI add-ons which work more like themes. You get defaults built-in and must choose at least 1 of that class. Like a theme but add-ons.  The built-in tab bar UI becomes a default add-on but allow us the freedom to choose an alternative add-on for vertical tabs.  We could have both at once or we could use a 3rd party add-on.   The most popular UI add-on eventually becomes the default built-in; let the users vote but always decide.  Right now, we are forced into many unpopular choices that are not improvements without a way out or only manual disable option or user-chrome.css hack for a few versions... until they impose a ban on user-chrome because it's too much freedom.

Power users are huge influencers. I decide if 1000s of users in my org even can run Firefox. It is not default any longer...

Doesn't this feature already exist when you click the "List all tabs" button in the top right of the title bar? The only differences from the animation on page 1 of this thread seems to be that it's in the top right instead of the top left, there's no ability to pin a collapsed version of the tabs to the left margin, there's no new tab button in the Firefox version, and there's no ability to search your tabs in the Edge version. The first three of these are more subjective aesthetic issues than anything, and would only be slightly functinally better or worse in niche desktop setups (e.g. taskbar or second monitor close to the right or left edge). The ability to search tabs is an actual functional benefit of the Firefox version.

I'm not against making this possible for those who would prefer it, but it kind of seems pointless. I can't help but think the people clamoring for this don't know about the "List all tabs" button.

@notstarboard  I think you comment shows very well the state of Firefox. On one side, we have browsers that are trying to shake a bit the current state like arc with new proposals for interfaces and how a browser can work. Edge not gonna lie, the tab management out of the box, and memory usage is superb. And yes it's Microsoft, but it's just so much better. I discovered Floorp thanks to a comment in a similar thread, and it's not as good as edge but at least it means I don't have to use it. On the other side we have people like you and Mozilla, complaining people don't want freedom and use their browser, while telling people off for asking for life improvement. Yes the list all tabs button exist, but it doesn't remove all the vertical real state and the fact that you have to double click to change tabs.

Edge does, in fact, have "Search tabs." (It's in the "tab actions menu" button above the tabs list when in vertical tabs mode.)

Firefox's "List all tabs" is ok in a pinch, but what I think a lot of people are going for is a persistent vertical list (remaining in view even while clicking around on a page, switching between tabs, etc.) that also does not obscure page content. Firefox's "List all tabs" does not satisfy either of these. 

The ability to group tabs within the vertical list is another big difference too.
