An idea for better media control in Firefox.

At the moment, if you need to quickly turn off audio playing on a tab, you need to find it and then right-click to mute the tab. There are no further controls available.

In Chrome, when you play a video or audio, a button appears on the toolbar.

Clicking this button shows a small panel of media control buttons allowing you to pause or skip tracks and even features some artwork. It would be amazing to implement some version of this in the Firefox toolbar.

It would be great if Firefox implements this feature natively.

But for now, check this addon out: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/mcx/

Shameless plug: I am the developer of it.

Hey @tnychn thanks very much for sharing your addon. I tried it out and it works really well. This was what I imagined it could look like when I originally posted. Keeping this addon installed, thanks very much!

An extra note: Seems to work flawlessly with YouTube and BBC, but struggles to detect YouTube Music or Apple Music, but I guess this is an early version and it's a great start @tnychn.

Add Media Seek Controls To Firefox When Using Peek Preview/Aero Peek On Taskbar for Windows

When consuming video or audio on YouTube, Netflix, Spotify etc, include built-in back and forward media seek buttons and also a dedicated play/pause button as well, on the the Peek Preview/Aero Peek windows when hovering over the Firefox icon that's locked to the taskbar.

This still isn't a feature????

Sadly not yet @owen I don’t know how much interest/upvotes there needs to be to move it along. However, in the meanwhile I’ve been using the add on from @tnychn. It’s not perfect and a native feature would be better, but it does the job.

Hey @PocketRocket it's simply called Media Controller and you can find it on the Firefox Add-ons page here. Have a go and see what you think.

Build in Media Controller

Build in Media Controller like the one in Chrome or exactly like that add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/mcx/
Thumbnail of the Video
Pause and resume playback
Skip forward and backward
Jump to tab when clicking on the title

(Screenshot is from the Firefox Add-on so it would be great if that could be implemented directly)
