I often use Picture in Picture to view things like Youtube videos or streams in a small window in the corner while playing games, and it works well, except for when the mouse enters the Picture in Pictur window and takes focus from the game, dragging the PiP window instead of clicking in the game. It would be really great to have an option on the Picture in Picture controls to lock the window in place, and prevent mouse interaction, apart from the control buttons themselves. I've attached a rough idea of what i mean.

Hi! Thank you for submitting the idea!

We have PiP full playback controls on our immediate roadmap, but we might look into it after that is shipped.

Thanks! I think this feature would become useful for many, since the trend is moving away from multiple monitors, and towards one big monitor/ultrawide, making it a bit more tricky to watch stuff while playing games in full screen.

This would be extremely useful as i've found out its really hard not to mess the picture in picture window up while gaming, i hope it gets added to firefox

Firefox logo Allow us to "lock" picture in picture?

Picture in Picture is an awesome feature and i love that Firefox comes with it by default.

However I do wish for one thing. So we can lock and "click through" the picture in picture, instead of our mice being able to click it by mistake when doing other things, such as grinding on an MMO or something.

Is there any way to get these options in the near future? It'd be great to play some games when watching a video during slow times! Thank you!

I agree. I would really love to see a click through option to make it so that when firefox is not the center focus, clicking on the picture in picture will not pause the video, drag it, resize it, or close it.

This would really make it such an amazing tool for gaming and multitasking. I have trouble using picture in picture for this reason and I would really love to see this implemented soon.

Is there anything on the roadmap or is this a feature we could expect soon? The request is quite old at this point.

I absolutely back this as a request - when playing something in window mode, and having the PiP in the corner, the mouse will activate it, removing focus from the game and also almost always wildly dragging the PiP container all over the place.

Add a "Lock Window" / "Click-Through" toggle for Picture-in-Picture mode

What feature would you like to see?
I would like to see an option to "lock" the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window in place, or make it completely "click-through" (ignoring mouse inputs) via a toggle button or hotkey.
Why is this feature useful?
This would be incredibly helpful for users who watch videos while playing video games or using full-screen applications.
Currently, when playing a game with PiP active, the mouse cursor can easily drift over the video window during intense gameplay. When this happens, accidental clicks can drag the PiP window across the screen, pause the video, or steal window focus from the game. This causes frustrating gameplay interruptions.
How should it work?
  1. A small lock/shield icon could be added to the PiP window controls, or a keyboard shortcut could be introduced.
  2. Once activated, the window becomes locked in its current position and transparent to mouse clicks (all clicks pass straight through to the background application/game).
  3. To unlock it, the user could press a specific hotkey combination (e.g., Ctrl + Alt + P) or interact with it from the main Firefox browser tab controls.

Similar idea here: Lock Picture in Picture to prevent accidental move or interaction

@Welja if this aligns with your request, we can merge the two threads (and combine the votes) to make sure the conversation stays focused in one space. Just let me know 😃

@Jon didn't see that one. Merging the two is fine!

@Jon that ok. Didnot see that post. Glad there are more people wanting that feature 🙂
