Feature request: Local calendar and contact synchronization (similar to Outlook CalDAV Synchronizer)
Hello Thunderbird Team,
first of all thank you for the great work on Thunderbird. It has become a very powerful and modern mail client.
However, there is one feature that is currently missing and that prevents some users from switching completely from Outlook to Thunderbird.
Many users rely on synchronization tools such as the Outlook CalDAV Synchronizer. These tools allow synchronization between local calendars/contacts and multiple CalDAV/CardDAV servers (for example Google, Synology NAS, or other DAV servers).
The important functionality is:
Synchronization with existing local calendars and address books
Two-way synchronization
Synchronization with multiple servers simultaneously
Local data acting as the primary source
Servers acting as backup or mirror
In Thunderbird, CalDAV and CardDAV are well supported, but they always create separate remote calendars and address books. There is currently no way to synchronize them with existing local calendars or contacts.
Such a feature would make Thunderbird much more attractive for users who want to keep a local master copy while synchronizing with several servers for redundancy and backup.
A built-in synchronization engine similar to the Outlook CalDAV Synchronizer would be extremely valuable.
Thank you for considering this request.
Best regards
