Icon background and spacer/grouped links on home page

I’d like to suggest a couple of enhancements that would improve the visual organization on the home page:

• Option to change the background color of the icons. This would make it easier to visually separate different types of shortcuts.

• Option to add spacing between selected rows or group icons per row into labeled sections (similar to HTML fieldsets/legends). This would allow grouping categories such as dev tools, music, dancing alpacas, etc.

After about three rows, the layout starts to feel a bit cluttered. If grouping or spacing becomes possible, it might also make sense to allow more rows overall.
