Hi team,

I’m really excited about the Project Nova redesign in Firefox — it’s a great step forward for the browser’s look and feel. I’d like to suggest a small but very impactful UX improvement for the new tab bar.

Currently, when I move the mouse cursor all the way to the very top of the screen (against the monitor’s edge), the area right above the tabs is not interactive. To activate a tab, I have to aim precisely at the tab itself. This breaks the “muscle memory” I’ve built up over years of browser use, where I intuitively slide the cursor to the top edge of the screen and click the desired tab.

In Google Chrome (and some other browsers), hovering the cursor near the top edge of the screen automatically brings focus to the tab bar, making it much faster and more ergonomic to switch tabs — especially on large monitors or multi-monitor setups. It feels like reaching the “hard stop” of the screen and then clicking down onto the tab.

With Project Nova’s refreshed design, this would be a perfect time to implement a similar behavior in Firefox:

  • Make the area just above the tab bar (up to the screen edge) act as an activation zone.

  • Allow users to “feel” for the top of the screen with their mouse and then click directly on the tab without needing pixel‑perfect aim.

This change wouldn’t alter the visual design of Nova at all — it’s purely an interaction tweak — but it would significantly improve the speed and comfort of tab switching for many users.

Thanks for considering this suggestion. I’d be happy to provide any additional details or share user testing insights if needed.
