Hi,
I was wondering for very long time why I don't like the threaded view - I think I get it. The thread top level entry is not getting bold and the time of it doesn't change when something arrives into the thread.

The top level entry gets only underlined, but it's not sorted to the top (as I have the pane sorted by date). Is there any way how to change the collapsed top level entry of the thread to contain either first unread or perhaps even better - the newest e-mail DATE on it? And bold, if anything in the thread is unread?

The top level time "THR Test 2"  should be bold and list 16:26 when collapsed in my opinion (or to my preferences)

If not, is it doable by addon?

Thanks!

Hi there, it would be nice to have an option to sort threads. When Thunderbird joins threads, it arranges them from oldest to newest and when a new email arrives it is added to the end of the linked threads and it would be nice to have the option to change the order so that the new email matching the thread is at the top of the list and the oldest email at the bottom.

I agree. Threads can be pretty confusing, and they only become more confusing if the newest email is listed last. The most important thing a person wants to see is the new email right on top.

Oh looks like it is not just me who is looking for the messages in the threads in the descending order. i think this is a bug because if I am sorting it via date and descending order, then the same should apply to conversation also (with the newest message on top)

Absolutely agree to reverse the order or add a option to control that. look at the emails I received in threads, just paiful to watch.2024-01-10_132205.png

Yes, we desperately need an option to view incoming email in the order received. Today, i spent 20 minutes searching for an email that came in earlier today, but was buried at the bottom of a thread. Seeing emails listed in the order they arrived is what I loved about Eudora.

I like the threaded messages feature but would like a way to have the lastest threaded message on top instead at the bottom. That is the order all of my other email messages are; most recent on top.  I see others have suggested this feature.

Hi~

First of all, I really appreciate all thunderbird app development team.

I love using the thuderbird email client across all aspects of work and personal life.

By the way, I haven't solved this issue so far. And, it makes me very inconvenient.

It is about 'sort by'(Honestly I don't know its exact menu name in English because I am an user for Korean version) under 'View' menu.

When I set 'sort by' with 'descending order', All email is sorted well. (It works well)

But, Problem is 'Thread' under each email topic. Because I enabled 'Using Thread', Many emails are accumulated as 'Thread'.

Then, when I expanded this collapsed threads, it is expanded and shows lists. And, this thread lists is shown as 'Ascending order'.

Even though I already tried many times to figure out solution by finding the certain menu, I assume there are no such option for controlling this sort order.

Could you advise how can I change this 'Thread' sort order to 'Descending order'?

Thank you in advance.

That thread is 12 years old! And there still isn't a way to sort threads in descending order. Very, very annoying. If you have more than a few emails in a thread, you have to go hunt for the newest one, which is ALMOST ALWAYS the one you want to see.

Agree.  Plus, after marking the first message as "read", when subsequent messages arrive, the "bold" effect doesn't return meaning you don't notice a  new responnse.

Have discovered that when emails arrive "today", the date portion of the timestamp (in the "date" column) is missing and this is causing the ordering issue.

Hello, I completely agree with you guys, it's like so inconvenient to use when you have a thread with more than 20 emails.

I've made a post that carry a lot of weak points that makes Thunderbird not much used as it should.

The two main reasons are :

  • bad default settings
  • too much inconveniences when a user "land"
