Deleting the contents of the address field - firefox browser

In Firefox, I miss the option to delete content in the address field. Is it possible to add an X icon that will delete the current content? It's annoying to constantly mark a field and then delete it.

The reason why this would be convenient. I often copy the URL posted on a forum where it is not possible to post more than one address as a link. So many more text URLs appear there and links are a real rarity. And this marking and deleting and then inserting every time is really annoying.

Think this suggestion should be retracted, because there is no real need for such functionality as this can be solved on

mobile (android):

• case1 (content in search/address field but field not yet active): tap inside the search/address field (already resulting in selection of total current content) and then pressing delete key on popup keyword.
• case2 (cursor already places in field, but current content not/nomore selected): press and long hold delete key on popup keyboar.

desktop (windows):

• Press CTRL+L, places cursor into search/address field and selects all current text. New input keyboard input automatically results in removal of previous content.

Both described methods are standard/common interface procedures in there respective OS environments.

The suggestion would therefore result IMHO in unnecessary UI clutter, unwanted and unneeded my most users.

This is exactly what I would like to get rid of. A single click, versus additional keyboard entries. Looks like you don't do that often.

@Bob_MarčanI dont agree with your argument against keyboard centric UI controlling, on a inherently keyboard-centered task. Here is my argument against adding a nother UI element (x):

• Your Task: Clear input field for new text input in firefox search box
• This is (however the current text gets deleted) a keyboard-centered task.
• So switching to a mouse/touch input for deletion of the current text, to then input the new text via keyboard, makes logically and efficiency wise no sense.
• desktop: Adding a nother keystroke however creates as little friction as you can get. Just use "Ctrl+L" and start typing your new input.
• mobile: Adding a button on mobile has contra-productive effects, because it occupies scarce screen space for a task, that can be performed via tapping the input field and pressing, on the automatically opened on screen keyboard, delete key.

Yes, one hand no problem. And secondly, most people write write with 10 finger (2 hands) system anyways.

Even better, you can just context click right on the search box, and select with what you would like to replace the current content.

In my keyboard (LK46W, digital) there is a distance between the CTRL and L keys  about 20cm.

You probably haven't heard of the cut/paste X11 way, which is used by users who didn't grow up on Microsoft?

... why stop there, firefox should add a mandatory constantly visible ui display keyboard, then you never ever have to leave your mouse again 🙄
