With version 98.0 the saving of .exe files won't ''ask me'' if i want to save the file like in previous versions.I read that the default saving attitude now is auto-saving. I have changed to ''always ask'' most of my content type like it was before, but the .exe type is missing. Please fix this on next version because a misclick - autosaving a .exe file can make things pretty bad. I have tried finding the ''Old Firefox'' folder in order to replace my old prefs.js but i guess newer versions have stopped using that folder. So please fix it.

Thanks to a guy under the nickname Ujudkma a working solution was provided so i copy pasted his reply in case someone else finds it useful here:

- You are able to revert by opening Firefox and typing "about:config". Then click on “Accept the Risk and Continue” button.

1. Type improvements in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel

The preference value is set to true by default, which means the new automatic download behavior is activated and enabled in Firefox.

2. Deactivate and disable the new behavior and restore classic download prompt feature by double-clicking on the browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel preference and set it to false.

Ditching the open/save option is a huge mistake and unfriendly to users. The temporary download of something you just want to look at, and have it go 'poof' when you close the browser or clear temporary files, is a key feature of a browser than is user-friendly.

This has me reverting, potentially permanently, to older versions of Firefox and shopping around for a new browser that doesn't have this annoying downloads issue.

Please revert the old behavior back! I often open lots of files only to preview them, but I don't want them to be saved in my Downloads folder. It was very good behavior for me that these files were saved in Temp directory, not cluttering my Downloads folder. That was the reason I used and loved Firefox for years! Now it's... I don't even know what to say. Total disappointment 😞

If you don't want to revert old behavior, please let the user choose separately directory for saving, and directory for opening files. At least this 😞

Inability to easily change this behavior, like global switch for action (want always ask everywhere every file type, or most common, or suggested, or default... just take a clue from any picture viewer tackling bazillions of formats easily) and not having temporarily downloaded - as in opened - files in my regular download folder - is maddening.

I guess I'm not the only person going through tens and hundreds of files a day... Want to open this presentation, save the other, download this archive and open the other just to copy out some few files I need, download this pdf, read another one in Firefox and open third in some advanced viewer so I can easily select elements and move with them to vector editing software for more fun, open spreadsheet and maybe edit and save it later... <- and it's just an email workflow and covers a 1% of cases. All of the above attacked me in the first 15 minutes of today.

This feature implemented in a way it's implemented is seriously hindering workflow and online experience in general, please fix as in let me control what the browser does. Otherwise, there's a plenty of options for a browser that does not care and in some regards they are way better.

Please firefox, please, don't alienate your userbase. It's not big anyway 😞

Thanks to Ujudkma  for finding a solution, whether temporary or not, it works. Just as

sasdrtx mentioned, I'm tired of deleting from the downloads directory.

We need the old way; sure temporary files whatever, just make it practical as before.

Hello Firefox,

I'd like to post a comment to mention that the "open" option, that downloaded a file to the temporary folder, was extremely helpful for managing files that only needed to be viewed a few times (e.g., opening an excel sheet to view one row, quickly grabbing info from a PDF, etc).

It would be wonderful it we could have the feature officially back instead of using a workaround.

Thanks a ton.

Agreed. I'm very unimpressed with the changes as well
