Status: New idea

Hello,

Many of us using bunch of folders in bookmarks toolbar, why cant we just change the icon of the folder, when we click the "Edit folder" button instead of just name..

This feature could be really nice and useful also can be efficient because it's easier to find folders by just looking their icon over reading names.

Thank you for reading and support.

I fully concur with these sentiments. I stick with Firefox over Chrome because Ff has the ability to add separators and folders to bookmark folders, which I find very useful.

Seriously Mozilla, is customising icons an incredibly difficult task? If an independent programmer can do it as an extension, why can't you? (and BTW, why did you keep disabling that extension?)

Easy Custom Bookmark Icons

I propose adding a native feature to Firefox that allows users to easily change the icons of their bookmarks. Currently, customizing bookmark favicons often requires third-party extensions or advanced CSS modifications (userChrome.css).

A built-in option, perhaps accessible via right-clicking a bookmark and choosing 'Set Custom Icon,' would greatly enhance personalization and make it easier for users to visually identify their bookmarks, especially for local files, custom URI schemes (like `calculator://`), or sites without good favicons. This would empower users to create a more organized and aesthetically pleasing Browse experience.

Hola, this feature would also allow users to add icons to bookmarklets saving space without text on toolbar.

For example, if you don't actually need a dark mode extension, you can save a darkmode bookmarklet and have it show up on your bookmark toolbar with icon to indicate darkmode. Many other places this can be used, like for example, redirecting url to mastodon home instance, archive.org/.is, etc.

Lower dependence on addons is better for the users since lower memory consumption, only thing is for ff to allow icon customization otherwise all bookmarklets are indistinguishable without text which takes up too much space on the toolbar.

Maybe editing the favicons.sqlite database with https://sqlitebrowser.org/ is the way to go.
