On Linux, I am able to set the homepage and new windows to a custom URL, however; for new tabs I am only able to choose between a blank page and "Firefox Home" which apparently is a different homepage than the homepage defined by my custom URL. While there are plugins to enable this, I believe this should be an easy enough addition to support in house.

Hello,

alone the existence of the addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/ should count as additional 64k votes for this as a native feature 🙂

Love the browser since Phoenix, would love to see this feature coming to FF.

So I did a little bit of digging, apparently it's not allowed on purpose to remove an attack vector that some malware was using.

Makes sense to disable as a quick fix IMO, but that was like 10 years ago? I guess they just don't want to take the time and effort to implement it securely when there are extensions that cover the use case.
