Add Perplexity AI as official search option

Please either add Perplexity AI as one of the search engine options, or as an official browser extension.  Chrome already has the latter.

Yes, you definitely need Perplexity to be accessible from the Firefox browser with an official add-on, especially for Linux desktop users.

Looking forward to it when it officially arrives. Meanwhile, based on the OpenSearch format from @Dan's response I added this in my .zshrc:

perp() {
    search=""
    echo "Perplexity lookup for: $@"
    for term in $@; do
        search="$search%20$term"
    done
    xdg-open "https://www.perplexity.ai/search?s=o&q=$search" &
}

So, from the terminal, I can just run perp <searchQuerry>, and it opens up perplexity with the search query lookup. This works on Linux, with the default browser as Firefox.

Well, I am done.

I am 84 and was very slow to start using AI. I now use Perplexity as my entry into this brand-new world. I was employed as a techie from the age of 29 until the age of 82. My age requires AI to enjoy the web thoroughly. The light bulb has come back and is on.

I can't see any "add as default search engine" on Firefox 126.0 (Windows)

There is no "Add search engine" on Linux.

Very disappointing that Firefox makes search engine selection only possible via activating the hidden option.

Updated my previous post. Easiest way now seems to be visiting the Mycroft project page of Perplexity https://mycroftproject.com/install.html?id=119761&basename=klorax-perplexity&icontype=ico&name=Perpl... (apparently originates from mozdev.org, according to https://mycroftproject.com/copyright.html) and then right click in URL bar on that page, select Perplexity.
