Since this feature hit my browser after an update a while ago, I'm constantly annoyed by it. I've been dragging tabs all the way to the left to rearrange them practically forever, and now suddenly doing this is pinning tabs that I don't want to pin - I'm just trying to rearrange my tabs.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, and that's fine - this feature can be enabled by default; however, an option to disable it altogether (via settings or even an about:config option) would go a long way. This feature greatly disrupts my workflows and has proven to slow me down when I'm in my flow state while developing websites. I need this feature to be toggle-able to continue using Firefox as my daily driver browser.

Update 2025-09-29: This feature can now be (mostly) disabled via an about:config option (as of v143.0.3). Setting "browser.tabs.dragDrop.pinInteractionCue.delayMS" to any relatively high value should effectively disable the option. The value is the number of milliseconds before the pin tab option triggers. I set mine to 2000, requiring a full 2s before the feature triggers, which has generally solved the issue for me. I encourage you to adjust this config option to your liking once your browser is updated to at least 143.0.3

Hello @Agentvirtuel!

Yes, the linked issue is definitely the culprit. In addition to the main issue title and description, in which tab-pinning gets triggered by moving the first tab ever so slightly, it also makes it significantly harder to quickly move a tab to the leftmost position in the tab bar, which is the issue affecting my personal workflow the most at the moment.

Thank you!

It's deeply frustrating how many new "features" get added with no way to disable them. As a basic utility that we all need to navigate in modern society, the browser should be user-serving and simple to use above all other considerations. Constant UI churn and removal of user choice does not serve these goals.

+1 for the option to remove this feature, it should be an option in settings. I'm constantly fighting this new feature now- not even when rearranging tabs, even just when clicking my left most tab sometimes it triggers the pin action.

It should at the very least get changed in a way so that you have to hold a tab there for longer then .0001 seconds to activate. Currently it's purely position based which I think needs to change to at least have a delay so that you must click and hold the tab for a second or so.

Please disable this feature by default or make it a context menu item. If it makes it to the final version in current form you're going to get a ton of feedback on this.

This Feature is so bad! Remove it!

Well, it's like in politics—users aren't asked. Here, the thing is crammed full of unnecessary features that nobody needs. But important things like displaying colors in the style editor or being able to easily change values like in Chrome—things like that don't get included...

If you keep doing this, you'll lose users you depend on! So if you think you should continue to artificially inflate the feature without asking users first, then add the crap for all I care, but by default it should be disabled with a note that it can be enabled.

You are definitely not alone.

I do not want any program to do things without me explicitely asking for it.
It's that simple.

Thanks you fro suggestign new features, but give me the choice to use them or not.

The problem is that it's also implemented so badly. When you start dragging a Tab you get this area which pins the tab if you drag the tab over it. But the area already activates when the tab isn't even above it, and is still quite a bit to the right of it.

Also when you have a tab already on the first position, if you start dragging it to the right a little bit and let go it also pins, which shouldn't happen.

Just leave it as a context menu option, that more than enough ways to pin a tab.

What's crazy to me is you all seem to have a way to see it (though it doesn't show up for me). I don't even get a pin icon to appear, I just accidentally drag it into this area that apparently pins the tab?

While the update in the nightly build to require a bit more intent to trigger this feature is an improvement, I think it would still be valuable to have a setting to disable the functionality entirely.

I understand from the comments on the PR here that the team would like to wait and see how the recent sensitivity changes affect user opinion, and that a stronger case for a toggle hasn’t yet been established. From my perspective, the behavior is still disruptive to my workflow even with the reduced sensitivity. I don’t use pinned tabs, so having the functionality enabled by default feels unnecessary for my use case.

I’ve also heard similar feedback from other Dev Edition/Nightly users, and from the comments above, it seems there’s a consistent desire for more user control here. A simple option to disable the feature would go a long way in accommodating different workflows without taking away from those who do find it useful.

this is indeed really bad UX decision

main issue here is trying to reorder tabs and trying to put any draggable tab as first as this option gets in the way

Strategic dot to remind myself to see when this is resolved. I get annoyed by this few times a day.

You are not alone in your frustration with this new feature.

Please add an option to DISABLE this feature ASAP.
