Status: New idea

Since this feature hit my browser after an update a while ago, I'm constantly annoyed by it. I've been dragging tabs all the way to the left to rearrange them practically forever, and now suddenly doing this is pinning tabs that I don't want to pin - I'm just trying to rearrange my tabs.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, and that's fine - this feature can be enabled by default; however, an option to disable it altogether (via settings or even an about:config option) would go a long way. This feature greatly disrupts my workflows and has proven to slow me down when I'm in my flow state while developing websites. I need this feature to be toggle-able to continue using Firefox as my daily driver browser.

Update 2025-09-29: This feature can now be (mostly) disabled via an about:config option (as of v143.0.3). Setting "browser.tabs.dragDrop.pinInteractionCue.delayMS" to any relatively high value should effectively disable the option. The value is the number of milliseconds before the pin tab option triggers. I set mine to 2000, requiring a full 2s before the feature triggers, which has generally solved the issue for me. I encourage you to adjust this config option to your liking once your browser is updated to at least 143.0.3

Yes, please make this configurable!
I always pin tabs accidentally. It's very annoying!

I really need a way to disable this feature completely.

Just want to say I'm in the A) add an option in settings to disable this or B) At least let us edit About:Config to kill it.  Please and Thank You! 🤞

I agree this new feature is extremely annoying, please add an option to disable it.

Making it more difficult to accidentally pin things would not be sufficient to fix this issue.  Allowing us to disable the feature entirely is the only fix.  It is extremely disruptive to my workflow.

Re-iterating what I said on a different thread somewhere else:

There desperately needs to be a way to disable this. I’m running the Beta and I’ve never intentionally wanted to pin my first tab.

If I hold down my mouse button slightly too long and slightly drag when trying to click on the tab to view it, it will pin. I’m quite frustrated that this made it past nightly into the beta with still no way to disable.

Please add option to disable it. I lose time weekly by accidentally pinning while reordering.

This is real money lost.

Please.

Badly designed idea. Please remove.

The constant introduction of whimsical UX changes, that bring only minimal functional improvement but lead to inconsistencies between intuitive user expectations and actual browser behavior, is making Firefox less useful for accomplishing common tasks in general.

Please disable it or add an option to do it. It is useless and so annoying that I created an account on mozilla.org to comment. Please disable it!

While the update to require a bit more intent to trigger this feature is an improvement, I think it would still be valuable to have a setting to disable the functionality entirely.

I understand from the comments on the issue #1984420 that the team would like to wait and see how the recent sensitivity changes affect user opinion, and that a stronger case for a toggle hasn’t yet been established. From my perspective, the behavior is still disruptive to my workflow even with the reduced sensitivity. I don’t use pinned tabs, so having the functionality enabled by default feels unnecessary for my use case.

From the comments above, it seems there’s a consistent desire for more user control here. A simple option to disable the feature would go a long way in accommodating different workflows without taking away from those who do find it useful.

So it's fine with me now. You have to hold down the tab for a while and drag it to the left before that happens, so it doesn't happen to me anymore.

Please add a feature to disable the drag to pin functionality. I do not use tab pinning in any capacity, and do not ever wish to pin tabs. I frequently rearrange my tabs by dragging and it is very disruptive to have to manage my timing when dragging tabs in order to prevent undesired pinning. The recent update increasing the delay is NOT sufficient. I wish to disable the feature completely.

This "feature" is getting in my way. Let me disable it.
I have a slight tremor and have to be slow/careful when I hold the mouse button to move tabs. This "feature" means I'm activating that irritating "pin" function far too often. It's a hindrance.

I totally agree! There should be an option either to completely disable it or, at least, to set a time for how long a tab should be hanging in this zone to enact this pinning, because now this time is too short.

Just made an account to show my support for this thread.

This new drag-to-pin feature is decimating my workflow. Really need some kind of option to disable it, and surprised it was forced on us by default. Am sure it was well-intended, but my god please give us the option to disable it. Awful.
