I like the Firefox Translations add on, but it would be great if there was a webpage similar to Google or Bing translate, where we can simply input text that needs translating, and it would translate it.

Alternatively, the add on could be expanded, so that when you click the add on icon in the browser it loads up a text box that you could add text you want translated, and it would translate it.

Translate site clone embedded in Firefox

Once Firefox has offline translation feature, it could be good to create a view like all translation pages have: https://www.bing.com/translator or https://translate.google.com/ so Firefox can be used for offline privacy translation of external texts.

Currently, on desktop, there is no easy option to has offline translation rather than writing custom app, using LibreTranslate on localhost or editing pages in Firefox with devtools to include source text and translate it using builtin feature

Hello. I have been using the Firefox Translations browser extension in Firefox for ages without realising it was deprecated and now that it has suddenly stopped working I have read that "With the introduction of the built-in translation feature, the Firefox Translations add-on will no l... ".

Unfortunately, the main functionality I used the extension for is not available in Firefox itself. I can use Firefox to translate whole webpages, but I can't use it to quickly translate text that I type myself or paste in. The extension is (was) great because 1) I could type/paste text and not be restricted to only translating webpages 2) I trusted it (was official Firefox) and 3) it wasn't cloud based, so worked even when I didn't have network connection.

I found a bug report for the exact issue I'm seeing with the extension, but I'm not sure it was really understood that the new translation functionality doesn't fully replace all the functionality from the extension.

I also found an alternative Firefox extension by the amazing Project Bergamot called TranslateLocally, but that just seems to replicate the translation of whole webpages, which is integrated into Firefox itself now anyway.

Can the ability to quickly translate typed in or pasted text be added to Firefox itself?

@graviton the feature is usable by opening the "about:translations" page. We have recently made various improvements to this page, and we are currently working on making it even better and on making it more discoverable.

Hi marco. Nice one! That "about:translations" page is exactly what I'm looking for. I look forward to seeing it improve further and maybe having a toolbar button or menu link or something one day - I'm sure your UX wizards will know what best to do.
