A password to get into our list of passwords

Especially if you live with other people, it seems to me it would be helpful to have to use a password to get into your list of passwords on Firefox.  As things stand, I have to either log out of Firefox OR my computer in order to prevent someone getting hold of my passwords if I happen to walk away from my desk for a few minutes!  ......   Or am I missing something?!!!

Add an optional master password specifically for the password manager

I would like to suggest adding an optional master password that protects access to Firefox saved passwords without requiring the user to lock the entire browser.

The current security model does not provide a dedicated way to require additional authentication specifically when someone tries to access the saved passwords.

I would like Firefox to offer an option such as:

Settings → Passwords → Require authentication to access saved passwords

When enabled, Firefox could require the user to enter a master password or otherwise authenticate before displaying, copying, editing, exporting, or otherwise accessing saved passwords.

Importantly, this protection should apply only to the password manager. The user should still be able to browse the web normally without entering the master password.

For example:

1. Firefox is open and can be used normally.

2. The user opens the password manager.

3. Firefox requests the master password or another configured authentication method.

4. After successful authentication, the saved passwords become accessible.

5. Closing the password manager or after a configurable period of inactivity, Firefox locks it again.

This would provide an additional layer of protection for users who share a computer or occasionally leave Firefox unlocked while still wanting convenient access to their browser.
