Where has the "Run Junk Mail Controls on Folder" menu item gone

Making moves

My Thunderbird install at some point updated, and the UI is radically different. One of the casualties is the "Run Junk Mail Controls on Folder" that was formerly on the tools menu and is now missing. Where has this feature moved to? I have several thousand new spam messages that haven't been picked up by filtering, so I want to mark some as spam, which I always assumed updates the spam learning slightly, and then explicitly launch the junk controls to whittle them down. Doing this cycle several times tended to work.

"Run Junk Mail Controls on Folder" has not been removed.

Have you tried Help > Troubleshoot Mode?

@nick_daniels your reply would be appreciated.

FWIW, This space is really for discussion.  Bugs and problems are best reported to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/thunderbird.

Thanks for adding a comment, and FWIW, I think the experience I had very much merits a discussion. TL;DR; it's the menus, they need some work.

So first off, the mystery was eventually solved, and it was because the main menu bar had spontaneously disappeared. No idea why and I didn't clock that this had happened, but seeing the burger I naturally went to that, which does not have the feature, hence reporting it as missing. I'd probably never seen it before, and subconsciously thought the menu mechanics had changed.

Discussion/Suggestion point 1: I assume the burger is for commonly used features, but I couldn't find any way to customise it. It's being overly opinionated to *assume* what are commonly used features, most useful, or whatever justification is used for a feature being granted the privilege of a place on the burger; so make it customisable, let the user choose what they want and don't want there. (Sorry if that's already possible, but in that case it needs to be made more obvious.)

Point 2: Why can the menu bar be hidden? To save space? If so then we need to talk about the gaping void to the left of the burger. I discovered some amount of layout customisation, but what I couldn't do is move the menu bar to the left of the burger, which would achieve the space saving plus the full menu.

Point 3: But that said, why have the burger at all? If the full main menu bar is useful for a user, there's little to no need for the burger. I'd suggest introducing the concept of a menu style, as the type of menu system that the user gets, and make that persist across all and every future upgrade, indefinitely and forever more in perpetuity.

Point 4: I think there was a search feature by default at the top, which I removed as it looked bad up there and is very non-standard. The bottom status bar (?) where there is also a massive empty space would be a possible place but the customisation doesn't support that.

Overall I think the UI needs an overhaul as it's a bit of mess tbh.
