I know it can be turned off, but I'd appreciate it if my browser would avoid adding new features that are both disruptive to regular use of the browser and also enabled by default.
Maybe this is not an issue for everyone, but I often highlight text while collecting my thoughts, and having something pop up is disruptive, and also risks mis-clicks which could accidentally send my private data to a third-party service without my consent.

"The new button thing that pops up" isn't very descriptive, but it doesn't sound like a FF issue. Can you post a link to a site where that happens?

Looking into it, the name of this feature appears to be "Select text to see suggested prompts". https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ai-chatbot
It happens on every site.

OK. Right in that article it tells you how to disable it:
"You can also select the more menu from the AI chatbot panel and select Hide shortcut when selecting text.:

To stop the pop-up from appearing every time you highlight text in Firefox, open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar. You'll see a warning, but just click "Accept the Risk and Continue." In the search bar, type browser.textSelection.enabled, and when it appears, double-click it to change the value to false. This will disable the feature and stop the pop-up from showing.
