Status: Trending idea

On Firefox Android, I've noticed problems on download management:

1. The Downloads page does not display the progress/status of ongoing downloads. It only displays completed downloads.
2. The download progress only displays in the system notification. If the download fails and cleared that notification (either intentional or by accident), the download will be removed/cancelled.

Here's my idea:
Add more information in the Downloads page (much like in Chrome and Edge):
- progress/status of ongoing downloads
- pause/unpause and cancel options
- progress bar or otherwise
- download speed and size downloaded over download file size

Comparison of downloads page of Chrome, Edge and Firefox:

Notice the download notification icon on the top of each browser.Notice the download notification icon on the top of each browser.

Please at least add an option for changing download folder. I hate using the download folder as the default folder. Every single app and browser browser wants to use the download folder as default download folder.

I would really love to have the option to set custom download folder, like creating Firefox Folder. Currently I'm using extenal downloader to use Firefox folder that I've created using the file manager.

@Anonymous no updates right now as it is not currently on our roadmap ... but as always, please continue sharing detailed feedback like your last post 👍 (it always helps when we evaluate ideas) and stay tuned for updates in case anything changes.

I think this is actually a bug? I remember an older version of firefox android used to show download speed and progress? I can't remember when this disappeared but it was definitely there in 2017.

@N0_W4RN1NGFirefox was redesigned, and the redesigned Firefox was released in 2020.

I dont even know whether I am downloading or not. I just hope that my file will suddenly pop up. Please!

Please please add something. I have no indication whether I'm downloading or not beyond the android OS level WiFi traffic meter.

This is incredibly bad ... Hard to believe that it isn't on the roadmap. It feels like being back at the beginning if WWW browsers in the 90's (but I think even Netscape was better).

Pleeeeeease improve this very very basic feature!!!

Please Firefox team implement this one 👌

I agree with the rest of the comments here. It's pretty annoying to have to turn on a different feature in a completely separate app just to get the same out-of-the-box functionality as other mobile browsers. This really should be added ASAP.

Spoiler
The built-in download manager in Firefox Android sucks. It works but its not optimal. For example If I start downloading something in the browser, the downloadable file shows in just the phones notification. If I tap on the notification, nothing happens untill the download finishes. It doesn't show the speed of the different download like other browser. Please improve on this issue.

For a temporary solution, I used to use Download Navi when I needed to download large files, but the app was popping up even when saving images so I switched to Cromite. That is so annoying to use actually.

Display the ongoing downloads in the Downloads section in the browser for Android

I have noticed that if you start downloading something in Firefox on Android, the download doesn't show up in the Downloads section of the browser until it is completed.
The progress of the download is only visible in the notifications and not in the download section. Also, the progress of the download is displayed only in terms of percentage of the file downloaded.

So, I would love Firefox to:-
(a)Allow displaying current ongoing downloads in the Download section of the browser
(b)Display the progress of the download in terms of the size of the file along with the percentage
(c)Display the download speed for the download.
