How to connect Thunderbird to my Mozilla account (without loosing the archive of my present log-in!)

In the Help-pages about the new Mozilla account, there is no reference to how to connect existing Mozilla services accounts other than Firefox. So I have no idea how I can safely connect Thunderbird to my Mozilla account and not lose my 20 years of Thunderbird archives.

Thanks for a guideline or addition to the help pages.
