Firefox really needs a UI Revamp in 2025/26

Hey everyone, I’m seriously fed up with Firefox’s current look.

Proton, which was introduced back in 2021, has become more of a headache than a help. Every time I open the browser, I’m greeted with an interface that just wastes precious screen space. The bloated padding in Normal Mode makes it feel clunky, and honestly, it burns my eyes. I miss the days when Firefox Quantum back in 2017 managed to strike that perfect balance between modern aesthetics and smart, efficient use of space.

What really got me thinking was my recent experience with Vivaldi. That browser nails it with its user focused, customizable UI. It makes you feel in complete control of how you want your digital space to look and operate. If Vivaldi can do it, why can’t Firefox? Mozilla has a huge opportunity here to tap into the creativity of its community. Imagine a future where Firefox offers a choice in the form of a compact and screen maximizing layout reminiscent of the old days or a clean, modern design that still respects user feedback. It is not just about making things look pretty, it is about creating an interface that actually works for us, the users.

I can’t stress enough how much of a missed opportunity Proton has been. The excessive padding and the removal of a genuine compact mode have turned what could have been a sleek update into an eyesore. It does not feel like a natural evolution of Firefox’s design. It feels like a step back. This is not just a rant about aesthetics either, it is about usability. Every pixel counts when you are trying to maintain a productive and enjoyable browsing experience. Firefox needs a serious rethink that honors its heritage while embracing the innovative spirit of modern UI/UX design.

Mozilla, if you are listening, it is high time for a genuine change. The solution is not to force users into one inflexible view but to offer options that cater to different needs. We need a UI that is built on real community feedback, a design that is not just another iteration of Proton but a thoughtful reinvention that makes day to day browsing a joy again.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Let’s make this a group effort. Share your thoughts, sketches, or even just your frustrations with the current design. Together, we can come up with a vision for Firefox that’s not only beautiful but also practical and user focused. Mozilla needs to hear us loud and clear it’s time for a change, and we’re ready to help make it happen.

Firefox's current UI is a mess and they keep forcing features nobody asked for. So let's work together to come up with a new design.

Yes, I am very much the same, I had to use userchrome to change the existing style. Modern browsers (chrome, zen), I like their UI, but I have to use css to get the same effect, and can get bugs with version updates
