Firefox for Android v122 high battery usage

Hi members,

After updating my Firefox to version 122.0 (latest at the time of writing this), I have noticed a significant battery drain on my Samsung Galaxy A24. I believe the battery drain is due to the background CPU usage by the app which is higher than other frequent apps that I use. I do not keep tabs open in browser nor extensively use the browser as compared to other apps.

Few details that might help developers

- Handset: Samsung Galaxy A24 4G
- OS: Android 14 OneUI 6.0
- Google Play System Update: 1 November 2023
- Addons: uBlock Origin, TWP-Translate Web Pages, Google Search Fixer

Share your thoughts or suggest a fix. Thanks

Hi there,

Iโ€™ve also noticed increased battery usage with Firefox 122.0 on my Android device. It seems like the appโ€™s background processes are consuming more power than usual, even when Iโ€™m not actively using it. Iโ€™m using a different device (e.g., Pixel 7), but it sounds similar to what you're experiencing with the Galaxy A24.

A few things Iโ€™ve tried that might help:

  1. Disable unnecessary add-ons: Some add-ons can cause additional CPU usage, even in the background. Try disabling them temporarily to see if there's any improvement.
  2. Clear cache/data: Sometimes accumulated data can slow down the app. Try clearing Firefoxโ€™s cache and data in the app settings.
  3. Check for background processes: Ensure that Firefox isnโ€™t running processes in the background that you donโ€™t need, like sync or media playback.
  4. Update the app: Make sure youโ€™re on the latest Firefox version, as updates often fix bugs like this.

If none of these steps help, Iโ€™d suggest reaching out to Mozillaโ€™s support or submitting a bug report so they can investigate this issue further. Hope this helps, and let me know if you find any other solutions!

I suggest to update to latest version of Firefox. 134 i guess....

Thanks for the suggestion, SiggiB! I appreciate the tip about updating to the latest version of Firefox. Iโ€™ll definitely check if version 134 addresses the battery usage issue. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs or improve performance, so itโ€™s worth trying out. I'll let you know how it goes!

Same here, version 133, pixel 9 pro xl. I put plane mode at night with 35% battery remaining and I wake up with 2% battery. I love many of Firefox' features so I want to keep using it but I also want to be able to have battery for the day...
