[Solved] Firefox Beta opens Playstore on launch

Since today, 2025-10-04, Firefox Beta always opens the Playstore when launching, making it very slow and annoying to use.

Steps to reproduce:

• Close Firefox Beta (or wait for it to be killed by the system) 
• Launch Firefox Beta 
• The Playstore opens 

I hope this can be fixed soon. Thank you for your time.

Issue SOLVED after updating Firefox Nightly to 145.0a1 from Play Store. This update wasn't available to me until today.

For some reason, this does not happen to me on Nightly.

Tested with: Version 145.0a1

For me, it started yesterday when Firefox Nightly needed an update. I updated it, and it hasn't stopped opening every time I open the app since then.

Maybe it's not checking correctly if I already updated. Maybe it doesn't happen to you because you didn't have Firefox Nightly, and so it didn't need to redirect you to Google Play to offer you the update.

If this is the case, reinstalling Firefox Beta should also solve the issue there.

I also already had Nightly installed. Firefox never prompted me to update though. And I don't want to try reinstalling Beta for a chance of it working, because collections are still not included in the backup. (Which heavily discourages using them, but I digress)

Just started getting these issues on Firefox Beta yesterday too. Uninstalled and reinstalled and bug's still there. Deleted cache still there. I switched to Nightly and started getting the issue as well. On Android 16

Same issue on Nightly Firefox for 1 or 2 days. The first time it launched Google Play, there was a update. I did it and,since, it does launch it each time.

I noticed it doesn't launch Google Play if not set as the default browser.

I discovered that Google Play does NOT launch when you click a link and open a tab directly.

It simply launches when you click the URL bar or try to create another tab (which happens by default when you open the app without having clicked a link).
