Firefox Home Custom Wallpaper shows black background on first startup

Anonymous
Not applicable

When using the Firefox Home custom wallpaper feature, the background appears black on first startup (after reboot or fully quitting Firefox). Refreshing the page or opening a new tab makes the wallpaper load correctly.

Tested with both 3K and 1920x1080 JPEG images — same issue. The problem seems unrelated to image size.

Steps:
1. Enable "Custom wallpaper for Firefox Home"
2. Set a JPEG wallpaper
3. Quit Firefox completely
4. Launch Firefox ➔ Home background is black
5. Refresh ➔ wallpaper appears

System Info:
- Firefox: 138.0.1 (aarch64)
- OS: macOS 15.4.1
- Wallpaper: 3K and 1080p JPEG
- Firefox Sync: Yes

Looks like a startup loading issue. Would be great if wallpaper loaded correctly on first launch.

Also noticed that clicking the search box on Firefox Home causes the custom wallpaper to flicker briefly. Technically, it looks like clicking the search box forces the whole page to re-render or refresh, probably because focus is being transferred to the address bar.

So the search box ends up being just a trigger for the address bar, rather than a real input field — which makes it feel redundant, and the flicker hurts the smooth experience (especially when using a custom wallpaper).

Even though Firefox is the browser that defines web standards, it's funny that its own homepage "web app" has this little UX glitch. 😄

Would love to see this smoothed out — maybe by preventing unnecessary redraws, or by letting users hide the search box entirely if they prefer.
