When viewing messages in the Matrix interface, do not "jump" the display the the latest message

I really appreciate the Matrix interface in Thunderbird, however, when I am viewing previous messages and a new message is added, the display jumps to it (the bottom of the message display window).

I often find I need to review messages that have arrived since I was last viewing them. Jumping to the end of the display on a busy channel makes this almost impossible as new messages are constantly arriving and the window "focus" is constantly shifting to the latest message.
